| May 16, 2008 | | Whitewater kayaking with other women to raise money for First Descents. | For the first time, the EddyFlower Vertical Challenge has opened a category for women’s paddle teams. In this unique kayak competition, teams of up to five boaters kayak as many vertical feet as they can between May 15 and June 15. This event is also a fundraiser for First Descents, a kayak camp for kids with cancer. Teams from around the country will hit the rivers as hard as they can this month, competing for great prizes such as Kokatat dry tops, PFDs, helmet cameras, and, for the individual who raises the most money for First Descents, a Dagger Nomad creek boat. But most of all, it’s a great way to get out paddling with friends.
Since the popularity of kayaking is increasing among the ladies, we thought it was time for us to have an opportunity to compete against each other and get out on the rivers together in the Vertical Challenge. This friendly competition provides a great incentive to go boating with other women. Check it out at www.eddyflower.com. It used to be that there were only a few token women paddlers around but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. With seven teams of women from all over the country I think "we have arrived." This will be a real competition.
