| March 04, 2008 | | The high mountain two step | Dance with the Mountain My rule is, off the summit by noon. Unfortunately rules are made to be broken, and I've found myself scrambling off the top of a few of Colorado's fourteen thousand foot peaks as the clouds swarm in and the sky explodes, well after noon. Although it may not be fun running for tree line with a full pack through ankle twisting scree and snowfields, it's definitely an adventure. We've seen people move from full hiking boots to the shorter hiking shoe for their hiking endeavors, and while a shorter, more cushioned shoe sounds good if you have to run down from a summit, the full hiking boot gives ankle support, and a solid platform to stand on. Certainly the hiking shoe has its place, it's the champ for short local hikes. But you'll find me with my tall, full support hiking boots on all my mountain adventures. You can dance with the mountain, but the mountain always leads.
