Late to come on the scene the ex-colligate soccer player is now making her mark on the slopes. She got her beginning by sending out a video clip her friend made to a few big companies and next thing she knew a package with a couple K2 snowboards and a contract were delivered to her doorstep. Since, she has been named Transworld’s rookie of the year, has cleaned up at numerous competitions, was featured in Lala Land (snowboarding chick flick-as in all girl riders) and now runs an all girls snowboarding camp. You go girl! DIVA news from the road. Outdoor DIVAS: What do you look for in women’s gear? Leanne: Finding something waterproof is a must and I also like to have a longer jacket with powder guards. I would say function over fashion. Outdoor DIVAS: Tell us about some of your camp counselor stories from the all girls snowboarding camps you put on. Leanne: Well….I try not to counsel, so on that note what happens after camp is none of my business, I close my eyes to whatever the girls get into after our day on the mountain or in the park. I must say they can get just as wild as I used to be. On that note….I did try and teach a girl a trick on her first day and she ended up breaking her arm, I felt really bad. O and another time a girl knocked her friends tooth out with her board, it was the classic cartoon scene….as the girl turned around forgetting she was holding a 5 foot long board smacking it right into the face of her friend-ouch! Outdoor DIVAS: What haven’t you been asked?Leanne:…..um…?...well…?...I feel like I have been asked everything. Outdoor DIVAS: Do you feel you get more interest from the opposite sex now that you are on the pro scene? Leanne: I do get a lot of pokes on FACEBOOK and mySPACE stalkers. Outdoor DIVAS: Do you have a pre-ride ritual? Leanne: No but I should, I seem to rush around the house and end up leaving a boot at home or forget my pass in another jacket. Outdoor DIVAS: What was the most creative way you ever got a free lift pass? Leanne: I used photoshop to change the date on my college ID so that I could get the college student discount; I did that for several years after I had graduated but don’t tell Whistler. Outdoor DIVAS: What was the last adventure you had? Leanne: I was just in New Zealand and Australia, wow I am so fortunate that snowboarding has allowed me to travel and experience new things. Outdoor DIVAS: What sticks out in your mind most about the land downunder? Leanne: While in Oz I saw a lot of kangaroos and green wombats….???? You’ll have to ask her why they were green. |
