Yesterday I participated in the 1st Annual Convert to Skirt 5k Run put on by our friends at Skirt Sports, the fine makers of the Triks line. I'll be honest I have never tried running in a Triks skirt before. Last year while I was training for the Denver Marathon, one of my training partners showed up to a run wearing one. The first thing that came to mind when I saw her was "what'd you just get done playing tennis and were too lazy to change?" Now over the past year I have seen more and more of these skirts popping up all over Colorado, in fact last weekend I counted over 10 Triks runners at Wash Park alone. That may not seem like much, but believe me I think we might be on the verge of a revolution of sorts. So, I'll admit I was curious to see what it would be like to run in a skirt. I picked up my skirt before the run and rushed to the bathroom to try it on. My first thought was "oh not so bad", "kinda sliming in fact". I walked out of the bathroom to meet up with my friends and it hit me.. I am wearing a skirt and I am about to go for a run. I've never felt so girly. I couldn't stop laughing at myself. Once the run started and there was a sea of skirts flappin' in the wind, I got into the rhythm. I get the concept. I get the skirt revolution and believe it or not I had one of my better runs. For starters, my legs weren't rubbing together (and anyone who has trained for any long distance runs knows what a pain chafing can be). There were other pluses to the Gym Girl skirt such as the side pockets to hold my car key and the sliming waist line to make me feel and look my best. Have I decided to convert for good? Not quite sure just yet. Will I give it another whirl? Absolutely. Don't believe me? Give it a whirl yourself and Convert to Skirt. |
