| March 17, 2007 | | Women's AT Gear | I finally had the chance to use AT gear in the backcountry instead of at a lift service resort. I’m sold. Having the ability to go uphill on what feels like lightweight alpine gear – then head back down, carving alpine turns, that’s a treat. Don’t get me wrong – having a free heel and dropping a knee isn’t bad either, it’s just nice to have a choice. I’m a fan of the Xena G-Fit AT boots from Garmont. Super light – but a strong boot – even a candidate for the lift service days (this new boot comes with interchangeable soles that allow you to change bindings safely). As for skis – any wide, lightweight, backcountry seeking women’s ski works for me. It seems that every season there is something new and great for us (women) to use while playing in the snow. So free the heel, free the mind - or lock the heel, free the mind. What ever works – as long as you play in the snow!
